For the past 18 years I have crafted my editing and writing skills, gaining knowledge and experience through working with authors and organizations. The organizations and institutes I work with add to my understanding of the trends and challenges facing us in the twenty-first centruy, giving me a broad view that I bring to my real love, academic editing.
Most of the books and journal articles I edit address political science, history, and international health. Space precludes listing all edited titles, but I include a selected list:
Over the past 18 years, I have worked with authors and organizations to perfect their documents. Organizations include Abt Associates (contract with USAID), American Institutes for Research, American Psychological Association, ICF International, and Office of Medical History (Office of the Army Surgeon General). The majority of my editing for these organizations has been in cybersecurity, education, health, marketing, and U.S. government documents. For the Army Surgeon General, I wrote two chapters for Builders of Trust: Biographical Profiles from the Army Medical Corps (Borden Institute, Ft. Detrick, MD, 2011).
My services include editing, copyediting, proofreading, and substantive editing in either American or British style. I am familiar with most style guides and quickly adapt to specific publishing requirements. I work on an Apple platform with Microsoft 365 so I have the most current versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. I also have advanced Adobe Acrobat. For several projects, I have negotiated copyright permissions.
I was working as an editor, researcher, and writer for Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations when a former history professor called and asked if I would help him prepare his manuscript for publication. That event changed the course of my career, and I currently edit both books and journal articles. My fields include anthropology, international and behavioral health, education, history, immigration, law, literature, marketing, political science, psychology, and sociology.
I work entirely from my home office in Buffalo, New York, USA. I can usually accommodate short-notice projects but prefer to get to know the author's goals and preferences before I begin. Turnaround time for journal articles is less than a week.
