My undergraduate degree was in Political Science. At Georgetown University I also did the course work for a PhD in Middle East History, though as a single mother I did not finish. I have taught Modern Middle East at American University and Virginia History at the University of Virginia. I have also taught reading and ESL, and compiled a lexicon of beginning English words for my students at the refugee camp. Recently, I have co-edited an encyclopedic work entitled All the World's Primates (Pogonias Press, 2016), a book on political economy by Jonathan Wand (forthcoming, Cambridge University Press), a Sci-Fi/Fantasy novel, and various papers. My areas of expertise comprise Middle East, modern China, France, and Russia, women, and early American history. Currently, I am freelancing to support my volunteer work with the refugee crisis in Greece and Turkey.
In addition to the work listed above, I compiled a collection of Uri Avnery's writings for Pluto Press, and have edited non-academic works. During my six years at the journal Washington Report on Middle East Affairs one of my duties was the final proofreading of each issue. I also occasionally copy edited and proofread the journal Left Curve, and was the English copy editor for the bilingual newspaper El Tecolote
Proofreading, line editing, copy editing, compilation, research, indexing, bibliography, developmental editing.
Additional to my in-depth understanding of history and political science, I have a broad base of knowledge across disciplines. My extensive travel and reading have supplemented my academic foundation in history, and the study of history necessarily encompasses many fields. Moreover, I am both logical and creative which I find is a great asset in editing.
I am generally available, however if there is an urgent deadline as much advance notice as possible (to schedule time off from my volunteer work) would be much appreciated.
